Every
breeder of purebred dogs who is registered with their
state's Canine Governing Body (in the ACT it is the ACT Canine Association) must have a kennel Prefix.
A kennel prefix is like a trademark. All dogs
registered by that person/s must have their kennel
prefix at the start of the registered name of all
their puppies. "Lukius" is the Kennel
prefix I use to register the Dalmatians that I breed.
Lukius
was my third choice for a kennel name, which is pretty
good compared to some breeders who have received their
10th + choice!
All
puppies from a litter must be registered, with either
limit or main registration papers. A pup on
the Main Register can be shown, and bred from.
A Puppy on the limited register cannot be shown, or
bred from but can be trialed (Obedience/Agility/Tracking/Endurance).
A registered breeder must sell a puppy with its registration
papers. There are NO discounts for a puppy without
registration, because ALL puppies must be registered
in a litter. I register all puppies that
go to pet homes on the Limited Register. ONLY
puppies which are going to proven show homes, or I
am keeping myself are registered on the Main Register.
I co-own any Main Register puppies that go to homes
who are interested in showing, but have never actually
showed before. I also offer a Desexing rebate
on all puppies.
I
plan well ahead for each litter. I agonize over
which will be the best sire to use over my bitch,
to produce not only good looking puppies, but also
physically and mentally sound puppies.
I BAER test all the puppies to ensure that all the
puppies can hear and that I do not use dogs with Uni-lateral
hearing in my breeding. I also hip score all
breeding stock when they are old enough. I
have also started to Eye Test and Heart check all
breeding stock as well.
All
my puppies are born indoors, in a air-conditioned
room. I ensure that there is someone at home
24 hrs a day for a week before the puppies are due
to be born to keep a constant eye on mum, just in
case she goes into labour early. The puppies
stay inside until they are 4 weeks of age when
they are introduced to the outside world via a fenced
off area in the backyard. From this age onwards,
the puppies will be outside during the day in the
puppy enclosure (weather permitting) and they come
inside of an evening to sleep, and to get cuddles
from the family. I introduce the puppies
to a variety of people from children to older persons
as I believe it is vitally important for proper socialisation.
The puppies are also introduced to a variety of noise,
ground surfaces, rooms and everything else that they
will encounter in their everyday lives.
All
my puppies are Registered (either Main or Limited),
Vaccinated, Microchipped, Wormed, and BAER Tested.
I also ensure that all my puppies are properly socialised.
All puppies are at least 8 weeks old before I will
let them go to their new homes. All my puppies
also trained to toilet on Newspaper and to walk on
a lead before they leave. If I do not have any
puppies available or expected when you contact me
you can be assured that we will direct you to breeders
that have the same high standards that I do.
I have contacts throughout Australia, through my membership
with various Dalmatian clubs, as well as my hobby
of dog showing.
All
my puppy buyers receive a detailed diet sheet, written
advice about raising the puppy and keeping them in
good health and some basic obedience training information.
I am always available to my puppy buyers for help
or advice about their Dalmatian. I strongly
encourage my puppy buyers to attend some type of basic
obedience training with their puppy so that it grows
to be a socially well behaved dog in later life.
