Magnus was not a planned acquisition, but every time I visited the litter (it had been sired by my Raine), the little boy with the Lime Green wool (Raider, named after the Canberra Raiders Rugby League Team) caught my eye. At 8 weeks old when the litter was evaluated, he was the standout puppy in my eyes. I just couldn't get this puppy out of my head. At 10 weeks old, when every other puppy in the litter was sold except Raider, I offered him a home. He came to live with me at 12 weeks old, and is owned in partnership with Philippa Hurst of Yarrowfell Dalmatians.
At his second show, at only 3 months and 1 day old, Magnus won Best Baby Puppy in Show from 13 Baby puppies at the Dalmatian Club of NSW Inc Championship show!
At 6 months old, Magnus became ill, and was diagnosed with Parvo Virus. He was one of the very unlucky few that contract this virus despite the fact that his vaccinations were up to date. After 4 days in intensive care at my vets, he came home very thin, weak but alive. It took several months for him to get back the physical condition and to make up the growing he lost to the virus, but is now back in the ring, and winning again.
He is a Best in Group (Group 1), Runner Up Best in Group (Group 2) and multi Class in Group winner. He was unbeaten in his class (All Breeds) until he reached 15 months old. He gained his Australian Championship title with a lovely Best in Group win at The Rock Show Society Show.
Magnus is currently competing in Flyball and has already achieved his Flyball Dog Championship making him the first registered Dual Champion Dalmatian in Australia!
In 2010 Magnus will continue competiting at Flyball Tournaments as he just adores Flyball. Morgan Harvey (Philippa's son) is also going to enroll Magnus in Agility training lessons, so hopefully Magnus will also be trialling in Agility by the end of this year as well.
